This month I breezed through 4 books in one week and then read very little else across the other 3 weeks which tends to be a theme in my reading style.
The books I read this month were:
- A Man Called Ove, Fredrik Backman
- Every Day, David Levithan
- The Woman in the Window, A.J. Finn
- Watermelon, Marian Keyes
- Wilder Girls, Rory Power
Of the five, A Man Called Ove sticks out as the clear favourite. I found the novel sweet and funny, yet deeply moving. Ove, a man suffering with life after his wife’s death, discovers what it is like to be loved by those around him when he does whatever he can to push them away.
Every Day is a lovely story, but it’s almost as if the author had a really good idea but couldn’t quite execute it. I felt there was so much focus on this, really quite frankly, ordinary young girl when the story could have delved into the protagonists condition, into the lives he entered and into an exciting adventure. It just…lacked.
The Woman in the Window was a story completely out of my comfort zone. I don’t read spooky stories, I don’t know what made me read it but it really creeped me out to the point where i’ve genuinely blocked it out enough I can’t recall the story line completely.
I’ve never read a Marian Keyes novel before and given my penchant for a romance, I thought it was about time to give it a go. If I’m honest, it wasn’t for me.
